How to Visit Kosrae

Where is Kosrae?

Kosrae is the second largest and eastern most island in the Federated States of Micronesia. Lying 5.2 degrees north latitude and 163 degrees east longitude, it is north of the Solomon Islands and halfway between Hawaii and Guam. Kosrae is a single island state of 42 sq. miles and is one of the most beautiful islands in the Pacific.

Air Transportation

United Airlines services Kosrae with four east and west bound flights per week from Honolulu and Guam, which makes Kosrae easily accessible even for short vacations. Nauru Airlines no longer connects to Kosrae with weekly south bound flights to Australia and Fiji as of 2017. When doing a flight search, Kosrae's airport code is KSA. We suggest that you click on this link and use this interactive map to find flights to Kosrae (KSA) from Guam (GUM) or Honolulu (HNL), and you can then also use it to see how to get to either of these locations from your nearest airport.

The Kosrae International Airport, in Tafunsak Village is located at the north-western corner of Kosrae, and is only 10 minutes drive from our factory.

Kosrae's airport currently handles direct 737 flights. They leave Honolulu (HNL) on Monday and Friday mornings at 7.25 am. During this trip you will have two 45-minute stops, the first in Majuro and the second in Kwajalein, and after crossing the international dateline, and traveling a total of around 8 hours, you arrive the next day, Kosrae local time at 1.12 pm.  Kosrae also receives flights from Guam (GUM) on Monday and Friday that leave at 8.20 am. There are two 45-minute stops, the first in Chuuk and the second in Pohnpei, and the flight arrives in Kosrae at 2.47 pm local time. (See the map above)

If you are traveling to Kosrae from Europe, the common flight paths are via Manila (Philippines), Seoul (Korea), or Tokyo (Narita Inl, Japan), and then connecting through Guam.

From Australia the easiest way is to take a Nauru Airlines flight from Brisbane(BNE) on a Thursday evening at 11.30 pm. After a few stops you arrive in Kosrae at 2.05 pm local time.

From Fiji the easiest way is to take a Nauru Airlines flight from Nadi (NAN) on a Friday morning at 5.00 am. After a few stops you arrive in Kosrae at 2.05 pm local time.

Return flights to Fiji and Australia leave Kosrae on Sunday morning at 5.25 am, and arrive in Nadi at 4.40 pm and in Brisbane at 5.45 pm.

From the U.S. mainland, the common flight path is via Honolulu, but you can also take a direct flight to Tokyo from many U.S. cities, and then travel via Guam.

Save money on airfares - United Airlines is offering a great discounted "Visit Micronesia" tourist fare. The discount fare covers up to five stops in a 30-day period for travel to Palau, Micronesia, the Marshall Islands and others - the first stop must be scheduled when the ticket is purchased, but the rest can be left open. A round-trip Visit Micronesia fare from Honolulu with stops in Majuro, Kosrae and Pohnpei totals approximately $1,100. The fare isn't available online, so you'll need to buy it through a travel agent, or call United Airlines in the United States at 1-801-359-9719 or 1-877-726-7282. Tell them the net fare tour code is VMICR to help them find the discounts. Be persistent, this fare is new and not well known with United reservation staff.

If you have a United Mileage Plus account, you can also use your miles to fly to Kosrae.
